Did you know our bodies crave movement everyday? There is a big belief out there that if your workout doesn’t make you sweat, it’s not worth doing. Truth is gentle workouts can be just as vital as hard core workouts even if it’s just walking. Think of it as your daily serving of fruits and vegetables. If it’s taking you a little longer to get back into a fitness routine or you’ve fallen off track, don’t sweat it. We can always start again. Learning is about putting in the effort and committing, which is an accomplishment in itself. The reward comes from getting out there and trying, giving it your best shot.
Keep your mindset at a healthy pace. Start easy and let the momentum build overtime. Start with 20 minutes a day, and bump it to 30, and then 40 and so on in 2 weeks or a month. You might feel like 20 is nothing. Shift your thinking to 20 is something! Anything, is better than nothing. It’s not about how much time you spend on an activity. It’s the fact that you are habituating the action into your routine, making it easier for you to scale your commitment over time.
When you are ready to boost your burn and do a little more, you can get your heart rate up by adding some intervals and climbing some hills.
Reminder- it’s a whole body activity! So good for your joints, bones, and is known to boost immune function and reduce stress when making it a regular routine. Its also been known to alleviate some hormone related symptoms, keep you mentally sharp and eliminate fatigue. If you can budget 30 minutes of your day to walking, hiking or some sort of movement, that is an excellent entry point.
Before you start, stretch, take some breaths and set your intentions. What are you hoping to gain from your experience? Focus on something that inspires you and allow that to be your motivation.
Have a great week everyone!
